The Process of Digestion

This afternoon Room 4 explored the digestive system. First of all we made a human digestion system outside with a food tube, stomach and intestines. Then in the classroom we made stomachs out of plastic bags.First we put in a piece of bread which was like the sandwich we ate at lunch time. Then Mrs Ogilvy added some digestive juices (lemon mist) and then we squeezed the bags to make our food into a smoothy just like the stomach does! We learnt that water was also very important because it is part of our digestive juices.

Looking at our stomach!

Squeezing those stomachs!

Mrs Ogilvy added the digestive juices.

Constable Sue

Constable Sue talking to us about the police.
This morning Constable Sue came to talk to Room 4. She told us all about the police. We learnt that they do lots of different things. Some police officers are dog handlers and they chase people. Some officers are in the diving squad and they do underwater searches. Some officers are scenes of crime officers and they look for finger prints at burglaries. It was really interesting and we all learnt some thing new about the police.

The Adventures of Flat Stanley

This week Room 4 and Mrs Ogilvy have been learning all about the adventures of Flat Stanley. Poor old Stanley was squashed under his bulletin board and he was as flat as a pancake!
First we read the story by Jeff Brown and then we looked at the characters of the story which was where we met Stanley and his brother Arthur. Then we wrote stories about ourselves when we were flat. Today we wrote to a friend to tell them all about Flat Stanley's adventures. Flat Stanley also went on an adventure around Fernridge School. Look at the photo's to see what he got up to!
